2018 Year in Review

It's already mid-December! I hope 2018
has been a good year for you.

On Goro & Niko front, there was some news.

Starting with Bad News:
We get their meal from two raw food makers.
Sadly, one of them discontinued production :-(

Good News:
We found a new raw food kids approved.
I also started making meal at home.

Wider variety is good, I think!

Goro is always helpful :-)

Great (?) News:
Goro broke his personal record for
the length of his poop.

Best News:
The best news is that there was NO news
in regard to their health.

I'm thankful that kids are staying healthy :-)

We hope you have a wonderful rest of 2018
and a happy new year!

Routine

Goro & Niko's raw food comes in a big container.

So I portion it into small bags and freeze them.
(This way, I can defrost only for the next meal.)

I do this food preparation on a weekly basis.
Of course, I'm not alone when I do that.

Yes, Goro. Do you want to try some?

Goro, calm down.

He performs the taste test.

Is it good?

Upon Goro's approval,
my weekly routine is complete!

Have a happy new week, everyone :-)

Dental Care

When we adopted Goro in 2009, we started
dental care by tooth brushing and dental chew.

It worked for Goro. So when we adopted Niko
in 2010, we started the same dental care for him.

Sadly, Niko quickly developed gingivitis.
He had the 1st dental cleaning at early age 1.

Since then, we tried many popular dental care
products. None really worked for Niko :-(

That is #1 reason why
we started kids on a raw diet.

Along with new supports.

Including...

First, neither Goro nor Niko showed
interest in raw chicken neck.

But kids LOVED it in freeze-dried raw form.

In fact, they got quite excited.

Goro...you are a bit scary.

Niko, wait! Eat on the plate!

Gradually, they got used to it...

Got good table manner, too :-)

* Always supervise when kitties eat bone!

So far, this dental care regimen has worked best
for Niko, though he may still need dental cleaning
in the near future (maybe next year.) We do
our best to keep his teeth as healthy as possible.

By the way, I got chicken feet recently. Thought
they might clean teeth and kids enjoy chewing.

It was NOT well-received...

***

Note! I don't mean this is the best care. Every kitty is
different. Information on dental care items here is
based only on my amateur web research and choices
are made to suit Niko's condition after trial & error.

Raw Diet

Niko loves boiled chicken.

The other day, I introduced him to
a raw chicken neck.

That's a chicken, Niko.

He didn't like it.

This was part of my recent attempt to
transition Goro & Niko to a raw diet.

I got raw food from three different companies.
Let's see which one Goro picks as his new diet.

Above category indicates the price comparison.

(Please eat "Low." Please...)

(Uh-oh.)

Goro chose the most expensive one. Sigh...

None of raw foods attracted Niko.
But he eats when mixed with current food.
I try to make a transition slowly.

Once transition is complete, we want to
visit Furries of Whisppy to try raw kangaroo :-)

Oh, and raw is just for main diet. I'll continue boiled
chicken for snack. Otherwise Niko will cry!
