Farewell to Squirrel

Goro & Niko used to enjoy squirrel TV.

But we installed kitty enclosure on the deck
last year. So they go outside more often.

Although we always clean enclosure and accompany
kids while outside, it's safer to keep squirrels away.

We decided to shut down the squirrel TV.

So I got a recipe to repel squirrels..

.....which failed spectacularly.

Then I found this squirrel-proof bird feeder. And
it worked! Squirrels eventually stopped coming!

I think birds are happy as
squirrels will no longer hog their food.

I am happy as Goro & Niko can be outside
in safer environment.

I hope they are happy, too!

P.S. Squirrels still get food at a place
away from deck. We just want to avoid
inviting health risks that they may carry.

Our Anniversary

Recently, Goro & Niko's Dad and I
celebrated our wedding anniversary.

He cooked seafood dinner for the special day.

I set a romantic candlelight dinner table
with flameless candles.

And garnished the dish with homegrown cat grass...

Yes, all for Goro & Niko

Kids, how do you like your candlelight dinner?

* I blame daylight savings time

Well, I guess they don't care about decoration
because they are boys, but...

I love sharing celebration with kids :-)

* We did have a candlelight breakfast (Oh, dark!)

Recheck

Last week we took Niko to the Vet.

After technician came, door was closed.

Searching for an escape route.

The window is closed, Niko.
I don't think you can break it open.

At his annual checkup in February, his blood
work showed slightly high BUN. Therefore
recheck this time. I was hoping it was false high...

On Monday - His blood and urine tests came
back with normal values! We sure keep monitoring,
but I am so relieved to see good result this time :-)

My Dear Hunter

Goro is a very good hunter.

He brings his hunting gifts to us, too.
Glad they are not breathing kind...

This brings me back a memory of
one of my girls over the Rainbow Bridge.

***

My beautiful baby girl.

She always gave me her hunting gift - birds, lizards,
etc. Yes, they were breathing (or used-to-breathe) kind.

I remember one particular night
when she brought me a LIVE MOLE.

Under panic, I caught it and threw out of window.

The image of mole vanishing into darkness
is still clear in my memory...

I'm sorry I had to let go of the hunting gifts from my
dear girl. But I cherish the gift of happiness she brought
me every day and happy memories I will never let go.

***

By the way, I highly doubt Niko is a good hunter.

Goro. For hunting gift,
please stick to a non-breathing kind.

Still Cold

March has come!

But it's still cold, so we lit a fire in the fireplace.

...on TV.

It feels warmer.
Doesn't it, Goro?

I hope spring will come soon!

Niko's 3rd Anniversary

While back, I moved one of Goro & Niko's
carriers to near the window.

Since then, it has become Niko's favorite place to hang out.

So I put a blanket for him.
Then he began to hang out there even more often.

I was happy as Niko was happy :-)

But I didn't know something terrible
was about to happen...

Niko, I'm sleepy. Let's go to bed.

What...SAY WHAT?

That's right! Niko didn't come to
bed with me as he usually did!

And night after night, he slept there.
My bed was cold like winter without him.
I had to do something.

Plan A: Take away the blanket. (When he is not
watching, so that he won't hate me for doing that.)
No, can't do. That would make Niko sad.

Plan B: Sneak Goro's favorite toy on blanket.
Lead Niko to believe it's Goro's bed now.

Sorry, Goro. This plan is too evil.

Fortunately, after winter comes spring.

About 2 weeks later,
Niko decided to come back to bed in the night.

My bed is warm again :-)

Having Niko in life is like having spring in heart all year long.
On February 28, we will celebrate his 3rd Gotcha Day.

Now, look at this gorgeous graphic by Mr. Puddy's Mom!

We were one of the lucky winners of her special graphic.
Thank you, Mr. Puddy and Mom, we love this so much!

Happy Gotcha Day, our sweet Niko :-)

Diet Time

Goro and Niko often fight while I prepare their meal.

Kids! Dinner is ready. Stop fighting!

A peaceful time...
*They do seem to have sides. Most of the time when
they eat, Goro is on the left and Niko is on the right.

Goro always takes over Niko's bowl.

Goro, aren't you eating too much lately?

That's true. It makes sense for active boy like Goro
to eat a lot. (As you can see, he flies all the time.)

However, at his last check-up a couple of month ago,
Vet told Goro not to get heavier.

Weight was "satisfactory" but "heavy side of normal."

Goro, I have to cut back on your snack.

It is not terribly hard. I simply give him less amount.
Also when it comes to snack (= chicken) time...

*Again, Goro is on the left and Niko is on the right.

Niko always takes over Goro's plate :-)

P.S. Thank you for your good wishes for Niko's Vet
visit from my previous post. His blood work showed
a bit worrisome numbers. We will go back to the Vet
for recheck in March. I hope my baby boy is okay.
